Karen Millen x Powell Styling
As a stylist, I am fortunate enough to get sneak peaks into upcoming lines through press previews and lookbooks. These are usually professional references to get an idea of what my clients may be interested in or what might be good for photoshoots. So, when Karen Millen sent along their Spring lookbook for me to peruse, I had a serious flash of inspiration. Their bright colors, graphic prints, and perfect tailoring just screamed holiday in Latin America.
As a fashion insider, one gets comfortable categorizing designers into several categories. Casual wear, suiting, evening wear, denim; categorizing retailers in these broad strokes helps stylists keep organized so we know exactly where to go for any occasion. Karen Millen has been known for their elegant dresses and super sophisticated evening wear for as long as I can remember. So, it was to my delight to discover that the recent collection encapsulated so many great day pieces that were multifunctional and so fun to mix and match and, of course, their ultra flatter evening silhouettes.
So, while it was still sub-zero here in NYC, I was in Aregntina and testing out the Karen Millen Spring collection in the southern hemisphere heat. These are three of my favorite looks - the perfect trousers and sweater for antiquing on a Sunday, the sharpest skirt for a weekday creative meeting, and, of course, just the most fabulous dress that ever was for an evening of tango in the town square.
